THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Process Superintendent, the Control Room Specialist plays a crucial role addressing the risk of control room coverage and competency across the Crushing & Ore Sorting plant and the Wet Processing Plants at Pilgangoora Operations. They will to oversee and coordinate the operation of the processing plant control rooms and to ensure there is consistent and high-level skills development in control room operations for spodumene production. The key remit of the role is to ensure that process crews attain the appropriate levels of competent Control Room Operators (CRO) who are responsible for monitoring plant processes, controlling equipment and systems, and ensuring that production setpoints are met efficiently and safely.
To achieve objectives the Control Room Specialist is responsible for providing input and delivering training programs that cover control room procedures, safety protocols, emergency response protocols, and troubleshooting techniques for sections of the processing plant. The goal is to ensure that Control Room Operators have the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively monitor and control plant operations, coordinate with process operators and maintenance personnel to address problems with equipment, and to correctly respond to any issues or emergencies that may arise.
Additionally, the Control Room Specialist will be a key stakeholder involved in optimizing plant performance, by analysing trends and providing practical input to new or alternative process control strategies, executing alarm management projects, and reporting on health statistics of key process control loops,
By providing comprehensive training and support, the Control Room Specialist helps to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the processing plant.
Further the Control Room Specialist will be required to provide support during the continued growth and expansion phases of the business including documentation management, such as establishing control room procedures for newly commissioned plant such as Crushing and sorting and P1000 expansion, along with other operational readiness and commissioning support.
This is a permanent position, with an 8/6 roster based at our Pilgangoora Operation.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Train, mentor and develop control room operators to operate all areas of the processing plant in a standardized, safe, efficient, and productive manner.
- Train, mentor and develop control room operators to troubleshoot and respond correctly to plant and process variability and appropriate escalation communications to supervision.
- Promote proactive and timely rectification and escalation of all process variability.
- Train, mentor and develop control room operators independently ramp down and restart the plant.
- Train, mentor and develop control room operators to respond and manage emergency situations accordingly in the plant.
- Operate the control room function in the absence of Control Room Operators.
- Recommend changes to parameters and setpoints as improvement opportunities are identified.
- Champion improvement projects in alarm management and process control loop health.
- Provide honest feedback to supervisors and process trainers on control room operator performance and competency during training.
- Regularly auditing control room training documentation and procedures to identify gaps and improvements to ensure best practices.
- Develop and improve control room training documentation and procedures using appropriate doc control systems.
- Demonstrate mature behavioural qualities to provide essential support to the Process Department in teamwork, culture, and engagement to achieve consistency and alignment across all Process Crews.
ABOUT YOU:
- +5 years of solid experience in fixed plant process operations, with a strong understanding of minerals processing, including crushing, HPGR, milling, gravity circuits, flotation circuits, Heavy Media Separation (HMS), Filter Press and dewatering circuits, and Tailings Storage Facility (TSF)
- +3 years of Control Room operations experience or in a specialist role within a Processing/Operations team
- Significant experience with plant control system interfaces such as Citect or other industry standard platforms
- Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project, i.e. computer literacy
- Experienced in plant shutdown planning, including ramp-down and run-up processes
- Ability to read and understand P&ID and engineering drawings
- Driver’s License (WA C-class or equivalent)
