THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Health and Hygiene Coordinator, the Health Technician is responsible in execution of health and hygiene programs onsite, including but not limited to radiation, potable water monitoring and health surveillance, fit testing, spirometry and audiometry, to support the Pilgangoora Operations in monitoring and protecting the health of the workforce from occupational health hazards. Health Technician will also participate in health and hygiene-based risk assessment workshops with site teams, providing technical advice and education on health hazards and controls.
This is a permanent full-time position which operates on a FIFO 8/6 roster from Perth or DIDO from Port Hedland.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Execute the site radiation monitoring program in compliance with the site radiation management plan, following the directions of the site radiation officer.
- Participate in health and hygiene-based risk assessment workshops, providing advice and education on health hazards and controls.
- Execute on-site health and hygiene monitoring programs for PPE fit testing, respiratory, and hearing protection.
- Execute the site Health Surveillance program, including spirometry and audiometric assessments as per the site Health Surveillance schedule.
- Support the development and implementation of health and hygiene programs.
- Complete data analysis for occupational hygiene data and report findings to the Health and Hygiene Coordinator for internal reporting
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments to identify potential occupational health hazards and take appropriate action.
- Assist in developing and delivering training programs related to health and hygiene matters.
- Attend and present at pre-starts and toolbox meetings to provide accurate updates and information to the workforce on or health and hygiene matters.
- Complete potable water sampling and operational sampling/testing in compliance with the site monitoring schedule.
- Recording health and hygiene data and completing verification and analysis of data (InHealth management system)
- Complete on-site analysis testing and ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated.
Additional Duties
- Support with completing personal exposure monitoring program for health hazards such but not limited to the following: inhalable dust, respirable dust, Naturally Occurring Asbestos, welding fumes, noise, and vibration as required by the health and hygiene coordinator.
- Support in developing and delivering training programs related to occupational hygiene as required by the health and hygiene coordinator.
- Support in hygiene related investigations as required by the health and hygiene coordinator.
- Cover the duties as the Mine Air Quality Officer and Noise Officer as per WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 when required. Maintaining qualification components
Health & Safety
- Complete task-based risk assessments and participate in relevant risk assessment workshops.
- Ensure hazards and incidents are assessed, controlled, and reported in INX.
- Complete Critical Control verification through Forwood to drive alignment, compliance, and verification activities.
- Complete Critical Control Effectiveness Testing (e.g. ventilation systems, noise enclosures,) and provide the results to the critical control owners.
Team
- Collaborate with team members and other departmental stakeholders to align health and hygiene activities with the organisation’s overall objectives.
- Provide opportunities to enable guidance, feedback mentorship, training to facilitate professional growth and development both in office and infield with H&S members.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationship with mining health and hygiene providers.
ABOUT YOU
- Certificate IV in Health and Safety or Allied Health Sciences
- Knowledge of WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 and related legislation.
- Driver’s license (preferably manual)
