Job Purpose Statement
The Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Assurance (HSEQ) Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s health, safety, environment, and quality assurance protocols. This role is crucial in ensuring the company’s compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as maintaining the quality standards of our operations.
This position will be reporting to the Managing Director and will be tasked with enhancing financial and commercial performance and value across the Hydro business. The role involves supporting critical business decisions by effectively evaluating risk and value, while establishing a consistent reporting framework and streamlined processes. The role will also provide ongoing commercial and analytical support to all stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Health and Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety plans, procedures, policies, risk assessments and other HSEQ documents to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and compliance.
- Continual monitoring of changes in legislation, regulatory and contractual obligations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Analyse and compile HSEQ statistics and report HSEQ performance.
- Create risk assessments, organize occupational health checks, record accidents/incidents, and undertake investigations and reports.
- Proactively identify improvement opportunities and implement preventative measures to enhance safety standards.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with all relevant HSEQ laws and regulations.
- Review Safe Work Methods Statements (SWMS) as per company procedure
Environmental Management:
- Implement environmental policies and practices to ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
- Monitor environmental performance and implement strategies to reduce environmental impact.
Quality Assurance:
- Develop and implement quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Conduct audits to ensure adherence to quality standards and identify areas for improvement.
Training and Development:
- Conduct training sessions on health, safety, environment, and quality assurance topics to educate employees and ensure compliance.
- Promote a positive HSEQ culture by leading safety meetings, toolbox talks, and environmental awareness campaigns.
- Provide advice and support to managers and employees on HSEQ matters.
Requirements & Attributes of a Successful Candidate
Education:
- Preferred Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, and Quality Assurance.
Pre-requisite:
- Legally authorized to work in Australia.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a HSEQ role.
- Experience in the construction industry preferred.
Technical competencies and skillset:
- Strong knowledge of health and safety management, risk assessments, method statements, environment, and quality assurance regulations and standards.
- Understanding of process approach management systems including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 9001.
- Confident in reading and understanding applicable legislation, regulations and Australian standards.
- Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Able to identify risks and appropriate controls in a variety of contexts.
- Able to adapt risk-based thinking to different scenarios and contexts.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills
- Exceptional organisation and time management skills.
- Experience in audits and quality systems.
- Certification in First Aid, Fire Safety, Environmental Management, and other relevant safety and environmental training is advantageous.
