THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Indigenous Relations Coordinator, the Indigenous Liaison Officer is responsible to provide support to Operations in establishing and maintaining positive relationships and values within the Indigenous community. It involves close collaboration with the Traditional Owners of the land, organising on-site cultural awareness training, heritage preservation and offering support to all on-site Indigenous employees.
This is a permanent position, with an 8/6 roster based at our Pilgangoora Operation.
Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as such, and be recognised by the community, in accordance with Section 50(d).
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General Liaison
- Ongoing liaison between PLS and Traditional Owners to maintain a connection with community.
- Supporting new Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander employees to settle in at Pilgangoora
- Development of collaborative and sustainable relationships between Pilbara Minerals and the Nyamal Community including neighbouring Traditional Owner stakeholders
- Attendance (as required) on behalf of the Company at all associated Community meetings and events.
- Serve as the on-site representative for NAIDOC/Reconciliation Week and facilitate onsite activities during these events.
- Facilitate/Coordinate ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremonies for new employees.
Site Heritage Activities
- Management and implementation of the Pilbara Minerals Nyamal Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP)
- Facilitation and coordination of planned Heritage Clearance Surveys and heritage protection, including Cultural Monitoring activities as directed by the Indigenous Relations Coordinator.
- Assisting the Company in meeting its commitment to manage and protect culturally significant and valued environmental areas on or around Pilgan and Ngungaju operational locations.
- Facilitate visits to Pilgan and Ngungaju sites as required by Nyamal representatives seeking access for cultural and other Nyamal related activities.
Training
- Facilitating effective delivery of Cultural Awareness Training to all PLS employees.
- Attend and present at various training sessions, including Pre-site Safety Inspection (PSI), Plugging in to Pilgangoora, and Environmental/Heritage training.
- Provide employee mentoring and support to all Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Pilbara Minerals staff.
Administration and Logistics:
- Issue Heritage-related stop work orders when necessary.
- Coordinate transportation for Traditional Owners' pick up and drop off.
- Maintain Heritage site inspection Database in INX in Control.
- Manage internal Indigenous network communications.
ABOUT YOU:
- Current WA Driver’s license
- Aboriginality and a sound knowledge of Aboriginal heritage and culture.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Physical fitness to meet the demands of physical work.
- Desire to learn and develop in the role
