My client is a leading Australian electrical consultancy specializing in commercial and industrial electrical installation and maintenance. Their team, ranging from electricians to electrical and control systems engineers, is dedicated to delivering and supporting the ongoing electrical infrastructure necessary for efficient operations.
THE ROLE
Based in Melbourne and reporting directly, and indirectly, to the Group Commercial Director, the Contracts Manager will be responsible for mitigating risks related to all contractual terms and conditions entered into by the Company. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with Project Managers and General Managers to understand the commercial rationale behind contracts while balancing the contractual risk profile
- Ensuring processes are in place and functioning effectively to align all contracts with the risk profile defined by the Board’s Delegated Levels of Authority
- Liaising with external lawyers, insurance providers, and customers to clarify complex contractual wording, verify appropriate insurance coverage for supply contracts, and negotiate terms that align with the Company’s risk portfolio
- Overseeing Project Managers and Contract Administrators to ensure project-specific procedures are implemented, contractual obligations are fulfilled, and risks are managed through appropriate subcontractor terms
- Ensuring material purchases and claims (variations, extensions of time, delays) are contractually sound, with warranties and favorable terms to protect the Company and meet end-customer requirements
ABOUT YOU
Ideally, you are experienced in legal studies and have extensive contract management experience on large construction projects. As a candidate seeking a long-term role, you will possess the following skills and attributes:
- An Australian-recognised Bachelor’s degree in Law and/or Business Administration
- 5-10 years of experience in contract management within the building/electrical contracting and service industry
- Strong skills in commercial contract analysis and negotiation
- Ability to manage multiple contracts and stakeholders simultaneously
- High-level organisational and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in contract management software and the MS Office suite
