Step into a role as a Visitor Management Ranger and join the Northern Region Team and lead the way in managing breathtaking natural spaces, where your every effort ensures a balance between dynamic visitor experiences and the conservation of these pristine landscapes. Step up, reach out, and make a tangible impact—apply now to be not just a Ranger, but a steward of adventure and sustainability in Queensland's great outdoors!
Become a pivotal steward of Queensland's natural heritage as a Ranger in the Northern Region team. This role is a true calling for those with a passion for maintaining our national parks, forests, and reserves, ensuring they are protected, accessible, and cherished. Working in close partnership with local communities, you'll contribute to land management, recreational, and conservation efforts regulated under comprehensive environmental legislation.
Specialising in visitor management with a focus also on day-to-day team supervision, you will play a crucial role within a small and dynamic team. From crafting communication that resonates with park visitors to managing sustainable and safe recreational activities, your work ensures that visitor impacts on the park's values are managed with a delicate touch. Positioned in Cairns, the role requires periodic travel to multiple locations, often including overnight stays. This adds a dynamic aspect to the role, where adaptation and the thrill of new challenges are a daily part of the work-life experience. You'll supervise a dedicated work group, ensuring project deadlines and deliverables are met with precision and within budget. Planning and delivering projects—ranging from park infrastructure development to resource management, or fire management to pest control—falls under your responsibility. Your astute management will extend to writing reports, navigating budgetary and human resource processes, and overseeing procurement.
Customer contact duties are integral to the role, involving answering inquiries, park patrols, and providing educational advice. Moreover, you'll perform compliance tasks and assist with enforcement of relevant acts and permit conditions, requiring sharp judgement and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory frameworks. Your ability to maintain productive relationships with stakeholders—including landholders, government departments, and local Indigenous communities—is crucial. You'll also plan and coordinate emergency response procedures, such as natural disaster plans and wildfire responses, demanding a combination of preparedness and calm under pressure.
The successful candidate will be someone who understands the organisation's vision and can translate this into actionable work plans. You'll manifest leadership that directs a work group to achieve project milestones, displaying adaptability to shifting priorities. Collaboration, ethical conduct, and the ability to communicate effectively are foundational to this role.
A sound knowledge of conservation and natural resource management principles underpins your expertise, especially pertinent to workplace health and safety, compliance, and emergency procedures. Your diverse skill set also includes basic trade skills for general construction, repair, and maintenance tasks.
We are seeking a Ranger whose values align with fostering equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion. Your engagement will not only uphold our commitment to these principles but will also enhance our culture of innovation. If you're ready to take on a role that blends your love for the outdoors with the opportunity to make impactful contributions towards maintaining Queensland's protected areas, we invite you to apply and step into a career where your days are spent safeguarding the beauty and integrity of Queensland's wild places.
