Company Description
Baumgart Clark Architects (operating now as BCBA Studio) was established in 2013 to offer design services to select clients. The practice directors are John A. Clark, Marcus Baumgart, and Nicholas Barker. The firm has 13 staff members across all offices.
We do socially engaged projects across community housing, crisis accommodation, core & clusters, Youth Foyers, social and affordable housing, education, aged care and liturgical architecture. We also work with Councils across Victoria and New South Wales, doing civic projects.
We number numerous non-profit organisations, government and non-government agencies, private clients and housing and aged care providers in our client base. Catholic and non-denominational organisations (schools, housing providers, social service providers) are a significant part of our work.
We seek to make a real difference with our work, and strive for socially sustainable project outcomes across all the sectors we work in.
We have had a Canberra Studio for six years, and we are now seeking a person who can act as the anchor for the ACT/NSW practice.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for the ACT office of BCBA Studio, to help us build the practice in ACT, regional NSW and Sydney. Regular travel to ACT and NSW sites will be required. The role will also provide support for the work done in Victoria and elsewhere in Australia, resourced primarily out of the Melbourne office.
This is a unique opportunity for a keen individual to join a vibrant, well-supported medium-sized practice team and leverage your technical and managerial skills. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to stretch your entrepreneurial 'muscles'. If this is something you aspire to, but you feel hesitant and that you’re not quite there yet, we would be happy for you to grow into the role with careful mentoring.
The ideal candidate will have technical proficiency, and architectural registration (either current or pending), combined with a strong desire to achieve quality results.
This role will be an exciting possibility for the right candidate, and offers a challenging career path with a future, and not just a job.
Qualifications - Technical
· At least 8-10 years experience with Architectural consulting in Australia
· Preferable to have an understanding of the ACT and/or NSW planning regime as it pertains to architectural projects
· Technical proficiency with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and proficiency in Revit (preferably): we are a REVIT documentation office.
· Ability to brief, coordinate and manage project the work and advice from subconsultants, combined into architectural documentation
· Strong organizational and leadership skills
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture (professional level graduate qualification suitable for registration)
· Professional registration as an Architect (achieved or imminent) is highly desirable, in particular in NSW or the ACT jurisdiction
The ideal candidate will have the skills to oversee the entire construction project life cycle, and also manage a team. You will need to know how to handle builders and site matters, and you will manage people involved at different stages of projects. You will have an opportunity to exercise strong design and technical abilities, and you will need to develop an active interest in our clients and their stakeholders.
That last point is important: we practice architecture to serve people in the community. You need to be interested in the social dimension of the projects we take on, and in the community members we and our clients serve, noting you may be designing for people at a socioeconomic disadvantage or at a difficult point in their lives.
