Your new role
This is an exciting sole in-house opportunity for an experienced Construction Lawyer to join the company's Senior Leadership Team as a valued legal and strategic advisor to support the company's business objectives while minimising legal risks. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all legal affairs for the company, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, managing litigation, and overseeing relevant transactions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide advice and support to the CEO and senior managers on legal and governance matters;
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including construction contracts, vendor agreements, subcontractor agreements and leases;
- Handle disputes, claims and litigation matters (e.g. Security of Payment Act claims and NCAT matters), working closely with external counsel as required;
- Anticipate and identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks;
- Ensure the company's activities comply with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards in the construction sector;
- Advise on corporate governance matters, including corporate structure, board governance, and compliance with corporate policies.
What you'll need to succeed
You must hold an unrestricted Australian Practising Certificate and have at least 8+ years' PAE, with a predominant focus in construction law (both front-end and back-end matters). Additional experience in property, development and planning matters will be highly regarded. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, it is critical that you have a solutions-focused approach and are a high-level strategic thinker who enjoys working collaboratively to deliver effective results. Excellent negotiation and communication skills are also essential.
