The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable client side professional to play a critical role in the monitoring, assessment, and rehabilitation of rivers, creeks, and estuaries.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of water ecology, contaminated water management, and ecosystem rehabilitation, with experience working in aquatic environments.
You will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the protection and sustainability of freshwater and estuarine ecosystems while contributing to the broader environmental objectives of the client’s organisation.
Experience
- Water Quality Monitoring: Conduct regular water sampling and testing in rivers, creeks, and estuaries to assess water quality and identify contaminants such as chemicals, heavy metals, and biological pollutants.
- Ecosystem Assessment: Assess the ecological health of aquatic environments by evaluating the flora, fauna, and overall biodiversity, focusing on both short-term impacts and long-term sustainability.
- Contaminated Water Management: Develop and implement strategies for the mitigation and rehabilitation of contaminated water bodies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Habitat Restoration and Rehabilitation: Design and implement habitat restoration projects aimed at improving water quality, rehabilitating ecosystems, and supporting the recovery of degraded areas.
- Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA): Participate in or lead environmental impact assessments related to activities affecting rivers, creeks, and estuaries, providing expert advice on ecological risks and mitigation strategies.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with government agencies, environmental organisations, indigenous groups, and local communities to promote best practices in waterway management and ensure alignment with conservation goals.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure that all environmental activities adhere to relevant environmental laws, guidelines, and policies, particularly those related to water contamination, conservation, and biodiversity protection.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Collect, manage, and analyse ecological data, preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Public Awareness and Education: Engage in community outreach to raise awareness about the importance of healthy aquatic ecosystems and promote environmental stewardship initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Ecology, Water Resource Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in water quality monitoring, contaminated water management, or aquatic ecosystem rehabilitation.
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and policies related to water contamination and ecosystem conservation.
- Practical experience working in rivers, creeks, estuaries, or similar aquatic environments.
- Ability to conduct environmental assessments and develop rehabilitation programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on ecological risk mitigation.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in using water quality testing equipment and ecological survey tools.
