Major Projects is responsible for facilitating the delivery of high risk and/or high value capital works projects on behalf of the Queensland Government. We have delivered and are delivering a diverse range of projects including major sporting, entertainment, arts, cultural, health, correctional and manufacturing facilities. In addition to the teams of specialist project managers, there are procurement, contract management, finance, communication, and reporting specialists.
This role, reports to the Director of Project Management. The primary purpose of the position is to successfully facilitate the delivery of projects on schedule and budget, in accordance with statutory responsibilities, government priorities, funding agreements with project partners, departmental policies and procedures.
What You Will Be Doing
- Develop and maintain key relationships with stakeholders, collaboratively resolving issues, ensuring effective project delivery and a high degree of stakeholder satisfaction.
- Manage the performance of multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of large and complex capital works projects including pre-design, design, documentation, tendering and delivery activities to consistently meet project time, cost, and scope objectives.
- Facilitate and/or participate in workshops in the determination of the procurement models for contractors and consultants, development of Significant Procurement Plan and any associated strategic procurement requirement.
- Project manage the implementation of complex capital works projects, utilizing various procurement methods including early contractor involvement, managing contractor models.
- Oversee the provision of information inputs to Detailed Business Case or similar.
- Coordinate any necessary project approvals, including development and planning approvals, and ensure that the conditions of approval are appropriately implemented.
- Ensuring projects are managed to achieve the client's requirements.
- Utilise appropriate monitoring and review systems to report on the progress and delivery of projects against time, quality and cost indicators.
- Being capable of forming and articulating an independent view of project progress, cost position, risk and quality outcomes.
- Provide comprehensive and accurate briefings and advice to the Program Director, Director Project Management, Executive Director, General Manager, Deputy Director-General, Public Works Division, Director-General and Minister on capital works project and program issues and risks, strategy, policy and risk minimisation strategies, and consultation issues impacting on the department and whole-of-government.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly project management reports and associated documentation, including but not limited to responsibility for cost statement management, time, and risk.
- Assisting the Executive Project Director to determine attainable fees for services under your control and where necessary, generate the approval for the billing of clients.
