The Role
As our WA Food & Safety Expert, you will ultimately be responsible for the implementation & adherence of Civeo Australia’s food safety standards across our sites based in WA and SA.
Reporting to our Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager, this role involves further assisting Civeo to maintain compliance with respective Food Safety legislation, HACCP, codes of practice, standards, and the adoption of good practice to minimise food safety risks, ensure customers’ expectations are met and establish a strong safety culture within the organisation. Additional responsibilities includes;
- Provide technical advice & support to food safety and quality projects regarding
- Carry out audits, investigations & inspections
- Advise on Food Safety outcomes & areas of innovation
- Develop & implement corrective & preventive actions
- Assist in the development & maintenance of procedures & work instructions.
- Maintain Food Safety Managements systems
- Support auditing programs incl. with 3rd parties
- Report on the performance of the Food Safety management system
- Promote & mentor good practices with food handling
- Maintain compliance with respective Food Safety legislation
- Site travel on as needs basis
About You
A key element to this position is partnering with our site based staff & wider HSEQ Team. Whether you come from a safety background or, previously worked as a Chef & wish to pursue a career in safety, we’d like to hear from you. Other attributes include;
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science OR Certificate III in Hospitality (highly regarded)
- Prior supervising experience within the hospitality sector
- Cert IV in Training & Assessment (highly regarded)
- An understanding of HACCP, Quality ISO 9001, Food Safety ISO 22000
- Exceptional written & verbal communication skills
- Ability to partner with all levels of stakeholders

Responsibilities
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist and provide guidance in the maintenance of the Food Safety Management Systems within the company.
- Assist with Civeo’s audit program, which includes 3rd party audits where required.
- Aid in the development of internal audits as well as conduct internal audits (deliveries, cold storage, food preparation, food service etc.), where necessary.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of food safety and quality assurance procedures and work instructions.
- Work closely with operations management, catering management teams and food handlers at the sites to ensure food safety procedures are followed and required records are maintained.
- Assist the Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager allowing Civeo to maintain compliance with respective legislation, codes of practice, standards, and the adoption of good management practices to minimise food safety risks and ensure customer expectations are met.
- Provide training to management and employees regarding the HSQE principals, food safety program, operating procedures, cleaning, maintenance, pest control, personnel hygiene etc.
- Assist with the non-conformance process for food suppliers.
- Conduct microbiological sampling as per the microbiological testing program to ensure food safety standards are met.
- Investigate customer complaints and work with relevant staff to find a root cause and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Report on the performance of the Food Safety management system to the Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager including recommendations for improvement.
- Provide technical advice and support to projects regarding food safety and quality.
- Conduct other tasks to support Civeo (where required).
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Professional Qualifications
- A Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance or related discipline is desired
- Certificate III in Hospitality is highly desirable
- Food Safety Supervisor certificate is highly desirable
- Auditor qualifications are highly desirable.
- Cert IV in Health and Safety is desirable but not essential.
- Training and Assessment qualifications are desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a supervising role within the Hospitality sector .
- Knowledge of microbiology, food safety issues and controls.
- Understanding of food legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
- Experience with HACCP and ISO 22000.
- Knowledge of HSQE legislation and practices.
- Understanding of the Quality Assurance processes and ISO 9001.
- Experience with leading and influencing teams to accomplish goals.
- Audit experience is desirable.
- Experience preparing and delivering training programs is desirable.
- Professional experience in a similar work environment desirable.
Skills
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to persuade/influence others at all levels.
- Ability to plan and establish priorities, meet deadlines.
- Computer skills – proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ability to use or learn various software or systems such as SharePoint and Myosh.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Be able to work independently.
- Ability to travel to various Civeo Villages in regional areas across Queensland and NSW.
