Vestas Australia has a fantastic role currently vacant for a Blades Lead Technician.
In this role you will be a key part of the Blades in AUNZ leadership team, reporting directly to the People Resource Manager AUNZ. Your primary focus will be working with a team conducting some of the most technically challenging repairs and inspections in the field (On-ground or up-tower via Rope access/BAP/EWP), ensuring your technical knowledge is used to enable a high level of service on all Blade related tasks.
This role will act as a Field Technical Lead and Rope Access Technical Authority for the team, working in close collaboration with the regional Blade Engineering support function along with the AUNZ Blade supervisor to establish plans for urgent Service/installation support requests that occur across the region periodically.
Responsibilities
- Providing solid leadership for the company in regards management of Rope access works
- Maximising efficiency of work across the rope access landscape, while providing a high level of direct support for Rope Access based queries
- Ensuring Rope access equipment is being adequately monitored & maintained as per legislative requirements
- Engage with both Blade and site team members as required to provide full work scopes and ensure alignment for repair plans
- Be the SME for all NDT inspection technology and equipment, ensuring that suitable technologies are being utilized
- Building process and tooling developments for large and complex repairs
- Attend site as needed for urgent ad-hoc repairs/inspections, or as planned for technical training or technician audit's
- Provide technical competency feedback for Technicians & collaborate with relevant Supervisor to enhance areas of focus for team members
- Work with Blade leadership group to focus on improvement areas and implement measurable actions in relation to performance, materials, and equipment
- Working with the Blade Engineering team and CIM dept for process reviews & updates to ensure the latest protocols are being implemented locally
- Involvement in early-stage repair/inspection/upgrade trials & development
- Recording & reporting on activities with a high degree of accuracy
Competencies
- Extensive working knowledge on various Vestas and Multi-brand Blade types
- Manufacturing or R&D experience will be highly beneficial
- Significant experience with the inspection and repair Methodology of WTG blades
- Ability to balance responsibilities and prioritize daily work with limited supervision
- Advanced knowledge of Rope access works and regulations
- Highly developed NDT knowledge and field application experience
- Ability to prioritise and delegate task as needed
- Understanding and intermediate user of MS Office, ERP (SAP) and exposure to Service specific software programs. Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office suite, particularly Excel
- Able to inspire and promote great work ethic with own actions
- Ability to display Practical hands-on approach to the service operation as needed
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to participate effectively both individually and as part of team
- Ability to work in a time-sensitive setting/time critical environment
- Policy making to create action
- Continual review of tooling and repair/inspection techniques and drive process improvement
- Trouble shooting capabilities and desire to find solutions to challenging & unusual circumstances/damages
- Leadership skills to guide and inspire Blade team colleagues
- Plan, execute and review works to ensure IRATA ICOP and Vestas Rope Access Safe Operating Procedure is being followed at every stage
- Ongoing review of companies Rope Access Safe Operating Procedure
- Document rigging techniques for all turbine types and access areas
- SWMS for each task on each turbine type to be current
- Communicate industry safety alerts and lead monthly rope access meetings with Vestas Rope Access Technicians
- Screen new vestas employees documentation including log book hours and certification
- Carry out Verification of Competency on new employees and once per year on existing employees
- Lead periodic emergency rescue drills
- Ensure tooling and equipment being used complies with relevant standards and Vestas Rope Access Safe Operating Procedure
- Ensure thorough inspections are carried out within required time frames
Qualifications
- Trade certificate or equivalent proven experience within the Rope Access and Renewable industry
- GWO BTT certification
- GWO blade repair of equivalent
- Confined Space
- EWP high risk License
- AU White card
- IRATA level 2 certification minimum
- 5 years experience in rope access as a minimum
- NDT Level 2
