Graduate Site Coordinator to join our team on the Ontario Transit Group (OTG) project. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in tunneling and underground construction, providing support to the team, particularly the Shift Engineer. The position involves monitoring daily site activities, ensuring the safety and quality of excavation and lining operations, and gaining firsthand exposure to constructing large-scale caverns and tunnels.
What You Will Do
- Assist the Shift Engineer in overseeing daily tunneling and cavern excavation activities, with a focus on maintaining safety and quality in these challenging environments.
- Conduct regular inspections within the 150-meter-long, 23-meter-wide caverns, checking structural stability, shotcrete application, and other lining works, reporting findings to the Shift Engineer.
- Prepare daily progress reports detailing the advancement of excavation and lining, highlighting any challenges encountered within the large underground spaces.
- Assist in ensuring quality control during excavation and lining operations in the extensive underground caverns, adhering to specific standards required for large-scale structures.
- Participate in safety checks and briefings, assisting in risk assessments specific to working in confined spaces and around heavy tunneling machinery.
- Track materials and equipment usage, particularly for the high volumes required for large cavern spaces, reporting stock levels to maintain uninterrupted progress.
- Coordinate with the Shift Engineer to ensure the timely availability of resources, addressing any issues that may impact workflow in these expansive underground areas.
- Help prepare documentation for daily shift handovers, summarizing progress, critical notes, and tasks related to the excavation of large caverns.
- Contribute to the daily excavation plans, adjusting as needed to maintain efficiency and safety across the sizable work areas.
- Support the Shift Engineer in identifying and addressing technical challenges that arise in the excavation and lining of the large caverns.
- Contribute to reports and suggestions for continuous improvement, particularly in the context of large-scale tunneling and underground cavern construction.
- Act as a point of contact for site workers within the tunnel environment, facilitating clear communication between the Shift Engineer, supervisors, and on-site teams.
- Attend shift handover meetings, ensuring accurate relaying of information and addressing any issues related to working in the 150-meter-long, 23-meter-wide underground caverns.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of tunneling and underground construction principles, with an eagerness to learn in a high-impact role.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in confined, challenging underground spaces.
