Purpose of the Role:
To plan, organise, lead and control site operations for compliance with the construction programme ensuring consistency in terms of, and in order to, ensure safety, cost, time, quality, environmental, community targets are achieved.
Qualifications:
- Tertiary Qualifications in Civil Engineering or similar discipline – desirable, not essential
- Trade qualified
- White Card
- C Class Driver’s License
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Construction Industry in a similar role or as a leading hand
- Experience working on large scale construction projects or other suitable projects works
- Experience managing a team

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Review and understand all drawings, programs, project specifications and sequences of work for the specific scope of work;
- Supervise work and provide clear instructions to minimise rework;
- Review drawings before commencing work for constructability and innovate to improve outcomes or raise issues where clarification or re-design is necessary with the Superintendent / Construction Manager
- Assist Engineers and Superintendent/Construction Manager in developing and monitoring short term program (3 week look ahead) and forecast associated with the scope of work/s;
- Be aware of tasks that are part of the critical path and immediately report any risks or delays associated to tasks on the critical path to the Superintendent/Project Manager. Proactively mitigate risks to achieving tasks on the critical path;
- Review the progress of all operations relevant to the scope of works against the short term program and determine solutions to accelerate or optimise the works where necessary to meet or exceed the target program and forecast;
- Be responsible for accurate and effective shift handovers as required;
- Develop “One Team” culture so that the site teams cooperate well with each other and integrate effectively with the wider project teams;
- Ensure Apprentices and Trainees are mentored and supervised in accordance with their prescribed learning outcomes;
- Foster and develop an innovative culture among the workforce team where each team member actively looks for better ways to do their job and meet Project requirements;
- Manage day to day performance and development of employees including effectively coaching and mentoring;
- Identify and resolve any IR/ER issues and escalate serious issues to the Superintendent/Construction Manager in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Ensure subcontractors have adequate supervision and resources to plan and complete works on time;
- Organise and supervise the placement of materials, plant and equipment required ensuring unobstructed access and progress to activities;
- Ensure day to day works do not pose an immediate or ongoing threat to environment including flora, fauna, waterways and artefacts etc. Ensure any hazardous substances required for the scope of work/s are stored appropriately;
