Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description
Along the project duration, large number of processes are happening in parallel, and several digital tools and platforms would be used in the design and construction of the project. Using these platforms, among many other inputs, large amount of data will be generated daily. We want to take profit of it by making analytics based on GIS data in all the project departments: Design, Survey, Instrumentation & Monitoring, Permits & Licenses (PLAA), BIM, Utilities, Environment (ENV) and all the related construction departments.
GIS, standing for Geographic Information System, will be The GIS Processes Analyst, reporting directly to the Information Manager, within the Digital Delivery Team, will need to identify processes happening within the Ontario Transit Group organization that can have a relation with GIS information, or where those processes can be optimized with the use of GIS tools and platforms.
Along with the identification, the GIS Processes Coordinator will need to look for open reliable data sources that can bring further insightful information to the project teams, and that, in collaboration with the Data Management are within the Digital Delivery Team, can serve as powerful information for different dashboards and project KPI’s.
Among others, the GIS Processes Coordinator will need to cover the following tasks:
- Identify and analyze department by department the GIS necessities and possible relationships and overlaps between departments.
- Provide knowledge and experience of user-friendly GIS platforms for end-users
- Document using wikis and flowcharts the different GIS-based processes.
- Definition of information standards and data models applicable GIS-based processes. Development of use cases an POCs for validating the data schemas.
- Transform 2D CAD information into valuable GIS information.
- Understand basic GIS data sources: data (geodatabases), vectorial (geometry) and raster (images).
- Knowledge of GIS-based data transformation platforms (ETL) and data automation platforms (visual programming)
- Development of logic schemas linked to existing standards and data ontologies, specially linked to 3D (BIM) and 2D (GIS) geometrical databases.
- Being capable of standardizing initiatives approach, with strategic and analytic vision to understand project needs and providing value from the data that they or other departments generate.
- Developing training content, both basic and more advanced levels for different adoption users.
- Establish and prepare clear and concise documentation for the different standardized processes.
Basic Qualifications
- Essential – Civil Engineer, Surveyor, GIS or data management specialization
- At least 3 years of experience working with GIS platforms
- Proficiency in GIS data sources and data models
- Proficiency in the use of GIS desktop tools: QGIS/ArcGIS
- High experience in the use of Excel and other Office tools to bring data into the GIS data sources
- Knowledge of the use of web-based mapping tools: Mapbox, OpenStreetMaps, ESRI Maps…
- Experience in the use of CAD tools
- Knowledge or experience in the use of FME Desktop/Server
- Experience in geodatabases for storing and querying GIS-related information
- Experience with some flowchart, diagram, and process visualization (MS Visio, Edraw, Miro…)
- Experience with Power Query and Power BI would be very valued
- API Rest and Postman or similar experience would be highly valued
Preferred Certifications
- Official Certification in QGIS or ESRI ArcGIS would be valued
