Our client is a prominent player in the Australian renewable energy sector, specialising in delivering advanced solutions for grid-connected, hybrid, and off-grid systems. With a focus on large-scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects, they are leading the transition to sustainable energy across Australia.
Known for their innovative approach and commitment to excellence, the company is seeking an
Electrical Design Engineer with deep expertise in renewable energy systems and relevant industry experience.
As an
Electrical Design Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design, optimisation, and implementation of electrical systems for grid-tied, hybrid, and off-grid renewable energy projects. You will work closely with EPC contractors, equipment OEMs, and Network Service Providers (NSPs) to ensure the successful execution of complex renewable energy systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in substation design, possess Level 3 ASP (Accredited Service Provider) registration, and be a
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng).
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for renewable energy projects, including grid-connected, hybrid, and off-grid systems.
- Collaborate with EPC contractors, equipment OEMs, and NSPs to meet project requirements, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and grid connection protocols.
- Lead the electrical design of substations, including high-voltage and medium-voltage equipment layout, protection schemes, and control systems.
- Perform electrical design calculations, such as cable sizing, fault current analysis, protection coordination, and power flow analysis.
- Review and create detailed technical drawings, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, and substation layouts.
- Provide technical support during construction phases, including site visits, inspections, and troubleshooting.
- Liaise with utility providers and regulatory authorities to ensure project compliance with grid connection rules and standards.
- Conduct system studies, such as load flow analysis, fault level calculation, and network impact assessments.
- Manage stakeholder communication and ensure all design and engineering deliverables are completed within project timelines and budgets.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in electrical design for renewable energy projects, including grid-tied and off-grid systems.
- Experience with EPC contractors, equipment OEMs, or NSPs in delivering renewable energy projects.
- Level 3 ASP (Accredited Service Provider) registration in NSW is required.
- Proven experience with substation design, including protection systems and high-voltage electrical infrastructure.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or eligibility for registration.
- Solid understanding of Australian electrical standards and regulations (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033, AS/NZS 4777).
- Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PowerFactory, ETAP) and MS Office Suite.
- Experience with solar PV, wind, battery storage, and hybrid renewable energy systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder management and project coordination.
- Willingness to travel for site inspections and project-related activities.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with power system modelling and simulations.
