Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description
- Installation of Ground Support Systems: Operate bolting equipment to install rock bolts, resin bolts, and other ground support systems as part of the tunnel construction process. Ensure all installations are performed to the highest safety and quality standards.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and procedures during bolting operations. Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure that all work is performed in compliance with OTG's safety policies and industry best practices.
- Equipment Operation: Maintain and operate bolting equipment, including jumbo bolters and handheld bolting tools. Perform pre-operational checks and routine maintenance to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly inspect installed bolts and ground support systems to ensure they are functioning as intended. Report any issues or anomalies to the Shift Supervisor or Tunnel Foreman immediately.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the tunneling crew, including miners, drillers, and supervisors, to coordinate bolting activities and maintain efficient workflow.
- Quality Control: Ensure that all bolting work meets project specifications and quality standards. Address any quality concerns promptly and work to continuously improve the quality of bolting operations.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of bolting activities, including locations, bolt types, and installation details. Ensure that all records are properly documented and submitted as required.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Bolter or in a similar role within underground construction, preferably in tunneling or mining.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of bolting equipment, including jumbo bolters and handheld tools. Knowledge of different types of rock bolts and ground support systems.
- Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of underground construction safety protocols and best practices. Certification in relevant safety courses (e.g., WHMIS, Working at Heights) is preferred.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and operating heavy equipment in confined underground spaces.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Union Membership: Must be willing to register as a member of the local union.
