What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site, which will require the use of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) to bore a 3.3km long tunnel.
The Project Coordinator Co-op will report to the TBM Specialist. This role will require continuous communication with all project team members and require strong organizational skills.
What You’ll Do Here - Completing project shift reports as needed with internal software.
- Supply field and office support to tunnel management/operations:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of work plans and packages in cooperation with construction and engineering.
- Interpretation of design documents as well as drawings and assist with implementation of design in the field. Identifying, recording and reporting any deviation from design documents and drawings.
- Ensure that construction activities are performed in accordance with written and approved policy, standards, programs and applicable procedures.
- Assist with finding vendors and complete purchase requisitions on an efficient timeline for procurement to not interfere or delay operations
- Provide accurate progress reports to tunnel management.
- Assists and monitor safety programs and statistics as required.
- Active involvement in quality assurance with regards to understating and implementing policies and procedures.
- Support TBM and surface shift coordinators:
- On site testing of materials/products as required
- Collection of samples (such as grout or excavated soil) as required
- Completing quality control checks using internal check sheets
- Fill in as shift coordinator as needed.
- Other works as needed during Co-op opportunity.
What You Bring To The Table
- Pursuing a Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mining Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Proficient written (report writing) communication skills
- Knowledge of SharePoint applications an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills
- Strong Interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Familiar with TBM tunneling concept and have a desire to learn
