Hays are partnered with a prestigious government organisation, who require urgent support from a professional individual who holds the ability and knowledge to assist the Building Inspector/Surveyor regarding commercial and residential applications including processing, assessing, developing and data communication, and would also be willing to commit to a 6-month contract, on a full-time basis (38 hours per week). Standard business hours apply, however flex would be considered. This opportunity would require the successful candidate to be onsite, Monday to Friday.
The objective of this position is to support the MBS plus the Building Control Group in ensuring the health, safety and amenity of building occupants and the public are protected, through ensuring buildings and places of public entertainment comply with building legislation.
Your new role
The Assistant Building Surveyor/Inspector assists in undertaking building surveying assessments, building inspections, building investigations and audits for the BCG, enforcement actions under the Building Act, as well as undertaking assessments of permit applications for places of public entertainment. This includes:
- Effective delivery of a building regulatory assessment, building inspection, investigation and audit service as directed by the Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Prepare documentation required for permits, building permits, including modifications, dispensations, appeals, performance appraisals and technical reports.
- Representing the Council by assisting in inspections and on occasion enforcing building standards on roads, footpaths, buildings, temporary structures, and other property requirements.
- Assessing, documenting and technical reporting.
- Report & Consent applications.
- Engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders in addition to members of the public.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in obtaining this opportunity, you’ll hold an understanding and experience of the building industry and how the permit-process operates. You will also need:
Completed studies in building science, building inspections, building surveying or equivalent.
Eligible for registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Inspector Limited, or Building Surveyor Limited.
Excellent knowledge of Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, National Construction Codes Volume One and Two.
The following skills are desirable for the position:
Progress towards Registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Inspector and/or Building Surveyor.
Local government experience in Building Control and demonstrated experience in building inspections and audits of city-type buildings.
Experience in the appraisal of temporary structures, scaffolding, gantries, prescribed temporary structures and places of public entertainment.
- Experience in emergency management and providing direction in emergency situations.
