What You’ll Do
This is an exciting time to join Telstra as a Health and Safety Professional. As one of two safety professionals leading Health and Safety for the Design and Construct team, you’ll play a key role in driving safety initiatives across the business.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to shape, challenge, and implement key strategies that align with Telstra’s health and safety objectives. Your work will ensure our employees, contractors, and systems adhere to Telstra’s Health and Safety Standards, fostering a safe and sustainable work environment.
You’ll be involved in all aspects of health and safety leadership, including:
Developing and presenting critical safety insights to senior leadership.
Collaborating across multiple workstreams and operational activities.
Engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the business to ensure alignment and compliance.
This role offers a healthy balance between strategic management system work and hands-on operational activities. You’ll primarily work from home, with the flexibility to use office space if preferred. Occasional interstate travel will be required to support field teams and contractors.
Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation of key initiatives to drive continuous improvement in Health and Safety across diverse field and site-based activities.
Collect, analyse, and report on Health and Safety data and information, providing timely updates and insights to Design & Construct leaders and field teams.
Review project documentation to ensure contractors and internal teams meet Telstra and regulatory safety standards.
Chair the Design & Construct Health and Safety Committee, facilitating regular communication and consultation between the workforce and leadership teams.
Take a leading role in Health and Safety assurance planning, driving the timely completion of remediation actions to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels to foster a positive, proactive, and inspiring safety culture.
Collaborate with subject matter experts across functions, including Field Services and the central Health and Safety Team, to align efforts and share best practices.
About You:
Confident in engaging with stakeholders at all levels, from senior leaders to field operatives, and building strong relationships across multiple workgroups.
Proactive in leading efforts to meet Health and Safety objectives, with the ability to challenge the status quo, identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance outcomes.
Willing to contribute to a broad range of Health and Safety activities, including planning and objective setting, data analysis, procedure development, performance reporting, incident response, and field visits.
Competency Requirements:
Qualifications: Hold a relevant qualification in Health and Safety or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a dedicated Health and Safety team, with exposure to complex projects (preferably in design, construction, or field-based environments).
Collaboration: Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and manage Health and Safety in large programs of work.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Skilled in interpreting Health and Safety data and developing clear, concise reports for various stakeholders.
Negotiation & Issue Resolution: Proven capability in achieving favourable outcomes through negotiation and effective problem-solving.
Influence & Risk Management: Ability to influence management decisions by applying sound risk management principles.
Stakeholder Engagement: Track record of maintaining strong, productive relationships with internal teams, peer groups, and external stakeholders.
