Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Ontario Transit Group (OTG) is seeking a skilled and dedicated Mechanic (410A) to join our team on the Ontario Line South project. As a member of Local 793, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery and equipment used in the construction of the tunnel and related civil works. This position requires extensive experience with heavy equipment and a strong commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a wide range of heavy machinery and equipment, including tunnel boring machines (TBMs), earthmoving equipment, cranes, and other construction vehicles.
- Diagnostic Testing: Conduct diagnostic tests to identify mechanical issues, utilizing computerized tools and equipment to ensure precision in problem identification and resolution.
- Preventative Maintenance: Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime and ensure peak performance of all machinery.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring that all maintenance and repair activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner. Participate in safety meetings and contribute to the development of safe work practices.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, hours worked, and any issues encountered. Ensure that documentation is accurate and up-to-date for regulatory compliance and operational tracking.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other mechanics, equipment operators, and site supervisors to ensure that machinery is functioning optimally and to coordinate repair schedules without disrupting construction progress.
- Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, providing quick and effective repairs to minimize project delays. Be on-call for emergency repairs as required by the project schedule.
- Equipment Upgrades: Assist in the installation and testing of new equipment or upgrades, ensuring that all machinery meets project specifications and operational standards.
Qualifications
- Certification: Must hold a valid 410A (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician) certification.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in the construction or tunneling industry.
- Union Membership: Must be a member in good standing with Local 793.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in diagnostic tools, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical repairs. Familiarity with TBMs and large-scale construction equipment is a strong asset.
- Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and coordinate with other trades and site management.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to handle the demands of the job, including lifting heavy parts, working in confined spaces, and performing repairs in various weather conditions.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work shifts, including nights and weekends, as required by the project schedule.
