Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description
Please note this is a co-op role that is estimated to start in January 2025 for an eight to twelve-month term.
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Environmental Compliance Co-op Student to join our team on the Ontario Transit Group (OTG) project. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental compliance and sustainability within the infrastructure and transit sectors. You will play a crucial role in supporting the team’s efforts to ensure our project adheres to all applicable environmental regulations, sustainability initiatives, and risk management protocols.
What You Will Do
- Assist in monitoring environmental and sustainability performance metrics and data tracking systems.
- Support the preparation and execution of carbon footprint assessments, analyzing project activities, emissions sources, and proposing mitigation strategies to reduce the project’s environmental impact.
- Assist in conducting environmental site inspections and environmental audits to identify potential environmental compliance issues.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure project compliance with environmental requirements, permits, sustainability standards, and environmental best practices.
- Compile necessary environmental weekly and monthly reports and communicate environmental risks to management.
- Help identify opportunities for enhancing sustainability initiatives and improving environmental performance on the project by providing innovative suggestions for minimizing ecological impact and optimizing natural resource use.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate program in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering, Sustainability or related field.
- Familiarity with Ontario and Federal environmental regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
- Prior internship or co-op experience in environmental compliance, preferably on large construction projects (in transportation), is advantageous.
