Delaware North are currently seeking a Water & Sewerage Treatment Plant Operatorto join our Maintenance Team at our Lizard Island Resort located at the 5 star property located on the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef, just over an hour’s flight north east of Cairns, QLD.
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager you will have a hands-on role in managing and monitoring the Resort Sewerage Treatment Plant and Water Treatment Plant
About the role:
The role and responsibilities of the Water & Sewerage Treatment Plant Operator includes but are not limited to operations and maintenance of the following:
- Record town water meters usage daily
- Sample potable water at specified locations
- Check C/2 dose pump
- Check desal chemical levels and replace as necessary
- All aspects of daily sewerage treatment plant operation
- All aspects of daily sewerage treatment plant maintenance
- Assist with preventative maintenance schedule
- Assist with running repairs at sewerage treatment plant
- Testing requirements for plants
- To operate the water plant in line with legislation
- To operate the sewage plant in line with legislation
- To assist in maintaining associated pumps
- To keep all plant consumable items up to date and ensure all orders are authorised by the Maintenance Manager
- Replace chemicals at sewerage treatment plant as required
- Maintain the plant and surrounds in a clean and tidy state
- Duties at the water/waste water plants will take priority over all other tasks
- Being aware of and adhering to all resort procedures for security measures, safety, fire, health and hygiene
- Assist with unloading of the barge as requested
- Adhering to Delaware North environmental policy for the storage and disposal of materials
- Assisting with cyclone procedures
- Attend training programmes as requested
- Completing additional duties for special events as directed
- Performing duties as requested by the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.
What you will bring to the role:
Formal Education
- STP Certifications
- Current driver’s license
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Understanding of safety standards
- Sound knowledge of chemicals and substances
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to carry out instructions
- Good communication skills
- Good team worker
- Working with initiative and autonomously
Off shift you will be able to experience Lizard Island on the reef or on land, from snorkeling, diving, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, visits to the Research Centre, tennis under night lights, morning yoga on the beach, and many more fun staff activities.
This is a “live-on” remote location role. Working in a remote location is not for everyone, so you must think carefully about the reality of living in a remote location for an extended period of time.
