GCE CONTRACTORS PTY LTD is construction company based in Brisbane and Sydney. We have recently been awarded several new projects and need to recruit an experienced bricklayer who can commit to working a minimum of 38 hours per week.

On a daily basis the bricklayer will lay bricks, pre-cut stone and other types of building blocks in mortar to construct and repair walls, partitions, arches and other structures. You must be able to operate brick cutting machinery/tools.

Key Responsibilities (skill)

· Studying drawings and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedures

· Measures distance from reference points and marks guidelines on working surface to lay out work layouts

· Spreads soft bed of mortar that serves as base and binder for block, using trowel.

· Sealing foundations with damp-resistant material

· Applying mortar to end of block and positions block in mortar bed

· Tapping block with trowel to level, align, and embed in mortar, allowing specified thickness of joint.

· Removing excess mortar from face of block, using trowel

· Finishing mortar between brick with pointing tool or trowel

· Breaking bricks to fit spaces using the edge of trowel

· Tapping blocks with a trowel to level, align, and embed in mortar, allowing specified thickness of joint

· Checking vertical and horizontal alignment

· Finishing mortar joints with jointing tools so they are neat and smooth

Competencies Required:

* Strong Knowledge of Mathematics - to be able to calculate specific measurements

* Excellent communication skills - to liaise and communicate with team members

* Knowledge of management of material resources - to obtain and use appropriate equipment, facilities and materials

* Problem solving skills - analyse information, choose the best result and solve problems to get the best outcome

* Ability to coordinate the work and activities of others

Qualification and Experience

We are an equal opportunity employer. The ideal candidate would possess a AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3) in bricklaying and at least two years of experience as a bricklayer. We will also consider applicants who have completed a Certificate 3 or equivalent and 2 years of experience. We understand that not all applicants have formal qualification and therefore we will consider applicants who do not have any formal qualifications but who can provide evidence that they have extensive on the job training (minimum of 3 year’s worth of work experience)

The person must be willing to commit to the company on a long-term basis and agree to be relocated to another regional area at short notice.We are committed to employing local workers. Ideally, we would like to recruit an Australian or an Eligible New Zealand Bricklayer for this position.

The successful candidate will be required to work at least 38 hours a week ( full-time). You will work at various sites around Brisbane as instructed by management. The majority of our projects are of commercial nature and you will be working outdoors. The bricklayer will be offered an annual salary of $85,000 plus superannuation per year

You must be able to read drawings and work using you own initiative.
