About the Role
We have an opportunity for a seasoned and experienced
Environment and Sustainability Lead to join our Safety, Quality, Risk and Environment team. Reporting to the Head of Safety, Quality, Risk and Environment, this key role will lead and manage the development, i mplementation and continuous improvement of MTS’s Environmental and Sustainability management capabilities. It will ensure MTS achieves and maintains the Environmental and Sustainability objectives as required contractually, and legislatively.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Develop and implement a comprehensive environmental and sustainability management plan
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability practices into project planning and execution.
- Manage MTS Environmental Protection Licenses, permits, and regulatory obligations.
- Develop and manage MTS environmental and sustainability management systems, plans and records.
- Lead the identification, assessment and management of environmental risks and sustainability opportunities via the Environmental and Sustainability Aspects and Impacts Register.
- Manage incident response plans, procedures, and investigations.
- Manage contractors to deliver agreed outcomes on budget, time and quality
- Develop training and awareness programs, coupled with communications to uplift the E & S capability within MTS.
- Ensure environmental compliance, inspections and reporting are undertaken in accordance with relevant NSW and Commonwealth legislation, systems, processes, and MTS policy requirements.
- Conduct risk-based audits and inspections as part of MTS’ internal audit program which includes rail operator regulatory compliance requirements
- Monitor and report on sustainability performance metrics, identifying areas for continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of facilities management, property management, construction, natural areas management, and waste management strategies
- Develop strong relationships with councils, regulators and other key external stakeholders
Desired Skills And Experience
About You
A seasoned Subject Matter Expert (SME) in your field, you have proven and demonstrated experience in Senior Environmental and/or Sustainability roles, with expert knowledge across environmental and sustainability issues that impact large infrastructure projects. You have strong experience in responding to industry regulators and ensuring compliance is met, coupled with superior leadership and stakeholder relationship skills.
You will drive deliverables across complex environmental and sustainability issues and provide support through a changing landscape.
With strong verbal and written communication skills, you will m aintain regular and effective communications on safety, environment, and sustainability via the delivery of quality reporting to key internal and external stakeholders, including to the Board, MTS Executives, and regulatory authorities.
The successful candidate will have Tertiary qualification in sustainability, environmental engineering or equivalent and:
- Experience in project management and contractor management
- Experience delivering a sustainability management plan or strategy
- Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate and deliver sustainability opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
