Network Operations is a Group within DTP, and is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of Victoria’s Transport Network. We continuously strive for better transport outcomes for all Victorians, every day. SprayLine Road Services (SRS) is a commercialised branch within the Network Operations Division of the Department of Transport and Planning providing road maintenance services, construction and associated civil works, bituminous spray sealing and line marking to DTP, other state road authorities, municipal councils, and private industry. SRS delivers services locally within the communities and is committed to ensuring quality, innovative and sustainable outcomes. SRS performs a key role as an internal provider to DTP, providing emergency response, maintaining organisational capability and supporting DTP in being an informed purchaser. We’re focused on outcomes that deliver more choice, connections and confidence in our travel, ensuring the whole transport network works as one to deliver better services and outcomes.
About The Role
- Full-time, Fixed term until 31st Dec 2025 opportunities (flexibility available).
- Salary: $61,325 - $74,611 + 11,5% superannuation.
- Location: Lilydale Depot
In this role you will undertake a variety of road maintenance and civil construction activities including network inspections and hazard and defect rectification works and perform manual labour-intensive tasks in accordance with established safety, environmental and quality procedures. After hours Emergency response capabilities and overtime are requirements of this role, and opportunities may be available to travel within the state to assist with broader Emergency responses. Whilst this role is primarily based in the VRMC Metro Region at Lilydale Depot, you may be occasionally required to work from other locations across the state of Victoria based on the operational needs of the broader SRS business. The standard hours for this position are 7.30am to 4.00pm. There may occasionally be a requirement to work overtime outside these hours, work away from home for periods of time, and attend after hours call outs as required.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
As a key member of the SRS Road Maintenance team, your responsibilities include promoting a safety culture, supporting team operations, ensuring cost-effective and timely maintenance services, adhering to the VPS code of conduct, role modelling positive behaviours, providing emergency response, assisting maintenance teams across Victoria, and striving for continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in the role the ideal candidate will be executing project tasks related to Roads, Roadside, and Structures inspection, routine maintenance, and safe operation of equipment. It requires adherence to Traffic Management Plans and established policies, with prioritization based on urgency and impact. The individual should demonstrate foundational skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, continuous improvement, and adherence to policies and guidelines. Additionally, they should contribute to team capability development by sharing knowledge and identifying areas for personal improvement.
Personal Attributes
On a personal level the candidate will be required to apply flexibility and adaptability, accepting changed priorities without discomfort and responding quickly to changes. The individual should be comfortable collaborating with teams outside their organization. Additionally, foundational skills in working collaboratively are essential, involving cooperation, sharing information, acknowledging others' efforts, and willingness to help when needed.
Qualifications And Experience
Mandatory
- Current Victorian Drivers licence
- Current Medium Rigid truck licence
- Current licences and tickets in plant operation; traffic management, chainsaw and first aid, construction induction card.
- Construction Induction White Card
- Working knowledge of computer tablets / mobile devices.
Desirable
- Certificate III in Civil Construction
- Understanding of Asset Maintenance Management Systems
- Strong knowledge of the Road Management Plan
- Strong understanding of Maintenance Specification Section 750
