Primary Role Purpose: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Design & Engineering Manager to lead the national Design & Engineering team. This pivotal role requires ensuring high productivity levels, managing engineering designs within timeframes and budgets, and adhering to Australian engineering standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- Leadership & Management: Provide overall leadership, day-to-day management, and technical guidance to the Design & Engineering team, ensuring high productivity, output, and team costing.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Operations Manager, State Managers, Business Development team, Superintendents, and Supervisors to deliver high-quality scaffolding project scope of work designs on time and within Australian standards.
- Cost Management: Manage and track costs/progress against lump sum, variations, and ensure all revenue is recognized. Enhance efficiency through control/issue/use of engineering timesheets and cost trackers.
- Subcontractor Management: Manage and coordinate all engineering subcontractors, ensuring compliance with up-to-date insurances and periodic reviews.
- Systems & Tools Development: Spearhead the development of animation and VR capabilities, including BIM and Twinning.
- Strategic Planning: Develop a strategic plan for the design and engineering function.
- Mentoring & Support: Provide mentoring, support, and professional development for the team.
- Innovation Pipeline: Lead the development of the Group’s Innovation Pipeline.
- Capability Development: Enhance the Design & Engineering team’s relevance to the Cladding and Insulation discipline, including producing CUI resistant linings and conducting thermal and acoustic calculations.
- Revenue Stream Development: Track and develop Design & Engineering as a potential revenue stream and separate entity for the Group.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Engage with all relevant stakeholders, including site and client visits and inspections, ensuring client satisfaction.
- Reporting: Develop engineering reporting metrics for the business.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain excellent communications and relationships with internal and external customers and key stakeholders.
- Tender & Bid Support: Provide assistance for tender and bid submissions.

- Adhere to all health, safety, and environment policies, procedures, and directives.
- Act in accordance with Company values and behaviours.
- Comply with all Company policies, processes, procedures, and work instructions.
- Work to ISO 9001 quality, ISO 45001 health and safety, and ISO 14001 environmental certification, and management systems.
- Participate in internal and external audits as required.
Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in leading and managing a team of Engineers and/or Drafters.
- Previous experience in a senior technical role.
- Strong technical ability, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- In-depth understanding of drafting, engineering design principles, and manual calculations.
- Minimum of five years of structural engineering experience within the construction industry (preferably temporary works).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build long-term relationships with stakeholders.
- Highly motivated, flexible, and results-driven.
- Ability to work at both tactical and strategic levels.
- Strong business and commercial acumen.
- Thorough knowledge of Australian building codes and standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Avontus, Robot Structural Analysis (or similar systems).
Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering (or related), including professional registration with Engineers Australia.
- Post-Graduate qualification in Business Management, Project Management (or similar).
