The Opportunity
Quality Inspector will ensure that Austal products and services meet all required regulatory and quality standards. This role involves auditing and inspecting operational activities across the business, and reporting, investigating, and resolving any identified non-conformances. Additionally, Quality Inspector supports the Operations teams in delivering business quality requirements through practical quality controls. Operating under the guidance of a lead or senior inspector, the Quality Inspector undertakes inspection activities across the business, ensuring these activities align with the objectives of the Quality organisation.
What’s Involved
- Undertake and complete Quality Control Inspections performed at all stages of the construction process.
- Candidates with shipbuilding and Pipe & Mechanical experience preferred.
- Develop and maintain Inspection and Test Plan related documentation in conjunction with internal stakeholders and undertake internal and external quality audits as required.
- Schedule and complete Quality Control Inspections as required engaging both internal and external stakeholders, including representatives from client and class.
- Conduct OQE audits of records / documentation developed during business wide inspection and test related activities.
- Document quality issues and performance measures.
- Administer business systems for monitoring and documenting product non-conformance.
- Maintain and support the development of the ‘non-conformance procedure’ and ensure correct use and application across the business.
- Support and assist supervisors and line management to undertake quality investigations.
- Conduct Quality event investigations as required, write investigation reports, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Develop and disseminate “Lesson Learnt” from investigation outcomes.
You’ll need
- Hold a Construction safety induction (white card).
- Industry recognised inspection qualification in one or more of the following disciplines: Structure, welding, pipe, pressure vessel, paint or fit-out.
- Minimum five years of experience working in Production with knowledge of inspection and Quality systems.
- Previous experience working within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with relevant standards, discipline specific and ISO 9001 Quality Management.
